What KRES means to me by Caroline Cupar

KRES Folk Dance Group

KRES has been so important in my life. It’s about friendships, experiences, and cultural Slovenian customs, specifically dancing. Dancing with KRES changed my life in so many ways. It created my second family. From KRES, I found true friends that I can finally be myself and create that sibling bond. KRES always gave me those wonderful experiences to cherish as I grow older. When I was younger just realizing what culture was about, I did not really know where I belong. Now as I am getting older, I realize that culture has made me myself. Without it, it would be like I had no place to go. From all the troubles I went through in my life I always turn to KRES for the support.

Last year, it was a devastating time in my life with anorexia. My goal was to dance again with the wonderful friends I’ve gained. KRES is my striver and my safe place and it is always going to remain in my heart. Some of those kids I went to Slovenian school with, I had a stronger connection. Throughout the years I came to fi nd some great friends I have now. KRES has always been my happy place. It’s a great way to build friendships, culture, language, dancing, and I learned to trust myself with being my own true beauty. [/pc-pvt-content]
